PTFE / Teflon

Not an elastomer but a fluoropolymer, used as a bonded facing over a rubber backing. It gives a chemically inert working face while the rubber underneath supplies the flex.

Why specify PTFE

  • Near-universal chemical inertness
  • Extremely low friction, non-stick surface
  • Very wide temperature range
  • Bonded to rubber for flexibility with an inert face

Where it fails

Cannot flex repeatedly on its own — it has to be backed by rubber, which is exactly how our PTFE-faced diaphragms are built.

We would rather talk you out of the wrong compound than sell you a part that comes back in three months. If the duty is borderline, send the operating conditions and we will say so plainly.
